The distorted shadow technique is something I’m going to work on. I can see it being very useful in finishing off some 3D scenes.
Have you seen Stephanie Valentin’s work on Youtube? She has a few tutorials on portraiture using Photoshop. I’ve sometimes wondered what you could do with some of the techniques she uses. She gets a lot out of the blur and smudge tools.

However the shadow from the jewellery was going the complete opposite of the shadows on the ‘fabric’ making it unreal.
At least that is how I saw it.
Then you can simply flip the background.
