Jim.. the font used is Iron Hero.. now that Ive told you that… can you tell me how to make a path from text?

John, thanks for that font tip! To create a path from text, just type your text, then go over to your layers panel, right click directly on the text layer, and select ‘Create Work Path’…
You can then hide your text layer and you will see the path. In your paths panel you can save the path (double click on the path layer or drag it to the new path icon), and then get busy on the path layer…As least that is how I do it.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial . But I do have a problem.. I can’t seem to use constrain 3D features. They appear inactive and i can’t press them. What could be the problem. (Created the path from text layer using right click – create work path).
(if I use a marquee tool on the 3d layer i can then right click and choose create constraints from selection) Thanks for the help, guys. 🙂

Jim.. thanks very much,, I now have a cool iron man 2 wallpaper for my desktop which Ive put on deviantArt.com for download to anyone that wants it..
I found a free font called CGF Arc Reactor which did the trick but used the 2 numeral from a font called “Haettenschweiler”

    Cheers, John.

Andre.. I had the same problem and realised it is because I didnt actually have any paths
in the centre of those letters.. R O and A.. So,.. grab the pen tool and create your own paths.. simply click to make an anchor point.. move to your next position and click again and the path should auto join up.. keep going til you create the path around the holes you need.. I hope this makes sense..

    Cheers,.. John.

@ Frank nah dude Corey left out a small detail when in the repousse menu in the internal constraints area select active from the drop down menu then it will allow you to select the center spots just as corey did. then turn them to inactive just like him and poof they will be gone

I have the same problem and the text I created the path from appears to have all the anchor points to create a closed path. I can access the internal constraints when I use a text layer. Not the same results, any suggestions?

    Great tutorial, but ……….
yes I too I’m having issues in understanding how the internal constraints work.

For testing I create a working path out of a custom shape say the envelope. This shape consists of three internal triangles. I select create from selected path but everything is greyed out to do with internal constraints.

However if i do the same but by selection rather than paths I get all internal constraints options enabled.

trying to figure out the logic ??

@John H Hey John, the drop down menu was greyed out as well but I’ve found the problem.
Before you go to the 3D repousse, make sure you have the box for “exclude overlapping shape areas” selected instead of the first box (add to shape area). This works for me!
In corey’s video it looks like he has the first and the second box active…I don’t know how you would do that.
