Love the way you use the channels, lots of photoshop users are steering away from channels and using 3rd party tools and also new tools in side photoshop for selections and defining blacks from whites etc, but you still carry some old school tricks up your sleeve and its great.
This was a great tutorial 1st because of the skills that you have taught people and 2nd because of the way you teach them.
    good job CB.

    Hey Corey,
Just wanted to shoot you a HUGE thank you. Just bought Adobe CS5 for work and they don’t give you much time to get up to speed before assigning you projects. Your tutorials have been a life-saver!

I tried using this technique but had no luck. I followed as per your instructions however used a different cloud image. I usually get a box around the image when i create the brush. The glows do not come out as nice as yours.

    Any help or suggestions?

    hey Corey,

Would you mind doing the showtime’s Californication poster. The one with Hank Moody under the swimming pool. It’s a really cool poster. Really want to see how they made it.

    Thanks!

    Cory, guys, anyone!!!

Is there any way to creat a brush and keep the colors? I’ve played with patterns and it kinda works but more like a wallpaper, rather than brush… Would really appreciate your help!

That’s the difference between a professional and amateur. A professional looks at an accident and realizes how to use it to their advantage. Like watching us cook versus a high-end chef, when something doesn’t quite go right.

Great tutorial, and really makes you think much more about brushes… Definitely adding this to the arsenal. Thanks for all the tutorials that you make.

    Cory,

I am experiencing the exact same problem that DS stated on August 11. The “Define Brush Preset” remains in an inactive state (grayed out) in Photoshop CS5 Extended, Windows 64-bit, version 12.1 of the software release. I also tried using a JPG image, a Smart Object image, and a PSD image to no avail.

    Please Advise!

YES! Corey is the man. Another awesome tutorial. Clicked on Satin in layer styles and it adds even greater possibilities. But yet! there’s more. Make pattern of clouds and turn pattern overlay on, use new pattern, set to difference. It’s never ending. Thanks again Corey.
