Fantastic effect. The way you come up with these ideas each week is phanominal. Can’t wait the try out and experiment with. Keep up the great work.

I love this effect. I have used the previous technique in a few of my projects.
Your a great source for inspiration. Looking forward to the next tutorial already.

Hi Corey I love you work, but I have a problem here…When I click on the Repousse and then on the Text Layer it shows me this: Could not complete the Text Layer command bacause the type layer uses a faux bold style. Can toy help me ? 🙂

    Hi Tommy,

If you go to the Window pulldown menu and select the character option, this displays the font dialog. Select the Character tab and select the small down arrow icon on the top right to display a list of options. Untick the Faux options

    Hope that helps

    Steve

    Corey, Great tut as always.

Challenge for you: Can you come up with a way for us older version users(cs3) to simulate this effect? Obviously it won’t be editable, but I’d still like to use this style of text in my projects. Can you see a way of doing this w/out the 3d tools?

    Hi Corey,

I love this effect and would like to incorporate it with a logo. However, you lost me on the Gradient layer. It disappeared and can’t figure out where it went. I tried this 3 times and cant figure our where it is or what I’m doing wrong?

    Thank you 4 your H E L P!

    Hi!

Thank you for this tutorial!! Very easy to follow and I like that you talk the whole thing out and why it works I just discovered this a few minutes ago, but im already excited to try this. I am a graphic design student and these types of tutorials can really help me learn and enhance my projects in school. 🙂 I look forward to more!

@Tommy – you can also render the text (check the layer panel drop down for this option). If you do this, you should also create a path from the selection so you can preserve the crisp outlines.

Great tutorial. I really enjoyed doing this. I would be nice if Adobe incorporated CUDA in to PS CS5 like they have for Premiere CS5 rendering. I have a lower end Nvidia card so even though rendering didn’t take too long, rotating it on the fly with the 3d object rotate tool did not display the black bg, just a translucent layer. Still worked because it still shows the “rays”.
    Thanks for this.
