Hi Corey, I love your podcasts but I can’t get any videos on the website to work. Youtube works but Adobe TV doesn’t and I have the latest flash player/plugin installed. Kelby Training works but Photoshop user TV doesn’t.There must be a codec or something I need. Do you have any ideas?

Corey, thanks for all the 3D tutorials. I’m new to extend and they are very helpful. I only know of one book and CS5 extend 3D so you tutorials are very helpful. Also I found your Using Wacom Tablets with Photoshop on the NAPP site
extremely helpful. I have had an Intuos 3 for sometime and have not taken full advantage of it. But with your tutorial I am finding vey helpful.

Cool tut. Finally learned how to control my shadow. One thing though, it seems to me that the sun is coming from the top right. The tree is dark on the left, bright on the right and the shadows skews left by about 70%. Sun is probably mostly staight up but favoring the right by about 10%.

@Karl – there are actually two books out on CS5 Extended’s 3D capabilities. Search on Amazon to find books by Zorana Gee (Photoshop product manager), and Rafiq Elmansy. Both are good, with some overlapping information. Zorana’s book is a essentially a collection of articles on specific capabilities, while Rafiq takes a more curriculum-based approach, and also includes animation.

Great tutorial with very clear instructions and very useful. The moving of the camera rather than the object seems so obvious now but it was something i was struggling with before this tutorial as I had been trying to achieve something similar. I agree with Ryan Scinneller’s point that the lighting on the tree and the shadow from the tree onto the sand make the location of the sun to the right and behind the 3D letters so the shadow should be to the left and in front. Still that is a very picky point and does not detract in any way from the technique which Corey has expertly provided. Many thanks.

Your shadows are in the wrong postion (I see others caught it) . Not a picky point Vern, the photo does not read right. How much stronger would the effect be if it was correct? I’ve done this effect in PS 2 and Illustrator but it’s very helpful to be reminded of some of things you can do, probably in less time. Still the advantage of having traditional art training helps with things like perspective and lighting.

Every time I try this it tells me that the text must be rastorized and will not be editable. Is there any way around that?
